Wadi Methkandoush

Wadi Methkandoush has one of the richest concentrations of prehistoric rock carvings in the soft sandstone date back at least 12.000 years, making this one of the oldest rock sites in Libya. Wadi Methkandoush is really an open air gallery that contains hundreds of wonderful carvings of giraffe, elephants, crocodile, hippopotamus and men are depicted in various daily life situations for example while making music and dancing. The carvings run for around 12 km. Wadi Methkandoush is all the more remarkable because the barren surrounds nightmarish black-rock terrain.
